Data protection, GDPR compliance
Since the GDPR came into force in May 2018, the penalties for data breaches can be up to €20 million. Increasing data protection awareness among people further increases the risk of fines for data breaches. The number of complaints and phone calls received by the Data Protection Authority (DPA) is increasing year on year, according to a report published by the DPA every year (“The data show that the number of inspections by the authorities has increased by a third compared to the previous year (from 630 to 940), but the number of other administrative procedures has also increased just as sharply (from 556 to 708)” – extract from the DPA’s 2022 report).
Fines and situations with the risk of disputes and consequent whistle-blowing can be avoided with the right organisational measures and data protection auditing. Many companies take data protection requirements into account from the very beginning of their business activities in order to minimise the data protection risks they face in their operations.
